Designing a checkout process for a Bike store app
Project Length: 1 month
My Role: UI/UX design.
Introduction
Chariot is a bike store app that offers a wide range of bikes for customers to purchase. The company has identified the need to improve their checkout process to reduce cart abandonment rates and improve the overall user experience. In this case study, I designed and implement a new checkout process for the Chariot bike store app.
Research and Analysis
To begin the process, I conducted user research to understand the needs and pain points of customers when using the current checkout process. I also analyzed the data on cart abandonment rates to identify areas for improvement.
From the research, I identified several issues with the current checkout process, including a lengthy and complicated checkout process, lack of transparency on shipping costs, and limited payment options. Customers also reported that the process was not user-friendly and that they found it difficult to complete their purchases.
Based on these findings, I developed several objectives for the new checkout process:
- Simplify the checkout process to make it user-friendly and easy to complete.
- Increase transparency around shipping costs to reduce cart abandonment rates.
- Provide more payment options to cater to the diverse needs of customers.
Design and Implementation
I started the design process by creating a user flow to outline the steps required to complete a purchase. I also created wireframes to visualize the new checkout process and gather feedback from stakeholders.
The new checkout process consists of three steps: cart review, shipping details, and payment details.
Step 1: Cart Review:
The first step in the checkout process is the cart review, which allows customers to review their purchases and make any necessary changes. We simplified this process by removing unnecessary information and providing clear pricing information, including tax and shipping costs.
Step 2: Shipping Details
The second step in the checkout process is the shipping details, where customers can enter their shipping address and select their preferred shipping method. We added a shipping cost estimator to provide customers with transparency around shipping costs and reduce cart abandonment rates.
Step 3: Payment Details
The final step in the checkout process is the payment details, where customers can select their preferred payment method and enter their payment details. We added more payment options, including PayPal and Apple Pay, to cater to the diverse needs of customers.
Here's a short prototype of the checkout process.
Results
After implementing the new checkout process, I conducted a usability test to gather feedback from users. The results showed that customers found the new process much simpler and more user-friendly, with a significant reduction in cart abandonment rates.
The new process also improved customer satisfaction and increased sales, with customers reporting that they were more likely to make a purchase from Chariot again in the future.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the new checkout process for Chariot bike store app has been a success, resulting in increased customer satisfaction, improved sales, and reduced cart abandonment rates. The process focused on simplifying the checkout process, providing more transparency around shipping costs, and offering more payment options to cater to the diverse needs of customers.
